April saw our us undertake our successful Easter Delegation Tour in North Korea! We were thrilled with an amazing experience which provided exceptional insight into the life of North Koreans and interaction with locals, including even visiting a Pyongyang high school and talking to students! But what did the tourists in our group think of it themselves? Will, from Newcastle upon Tyne England (pictured in the group photo), who had never traveled abroad before heading on this trip, shared his North Korea experience with us!
Why did you choose to Visit North Korea?
I am nearly 30 and I have never traveled much in my life. I wanted my first personal holiday to be something big. And I didn’t think it can come any bigger than going to North Korea! The people on the tour with me were impressed that it was to be my first holiday and said I sure knew a great way on how to begin my travels! I give praise to Visit North Korea for letting me know tours for foreigners even existed in the country!
How did the North Korea experience make you feel?
It was wonderful to be inside a culture that so many people of the world never really desire to see much. I felt like I had gone into another dimension, as North Korea is a place with barely any other foreigners around. The North Korean people are so lovely and helpful. I felt the media of the world have managed to misportray to us the actual good spirit of the North Korean people. Our tour guides Tom and Ben were amazing and fun to be around, they really kept me happy on the tour.
What were the biggest highlights of your trip?
The biggest highlights of my North Korea experience had to be visiting:
- The “Kumsusan Palace of the Sun” – where I got to see the preserved bodies of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. Access inside this palace is very limited so it will be something to talk about for the rest of my life.
- A North Korean secondary school – we had local children perform songs and acts to us, as well as getting to meet them in person so they can ask us questions. It was wonderful to receive such kind cultural exchanges from them.
- The “DMZ border” with South Korea and Kaesong – here we got to get real photographs with North Korean soldiers and even with a General. The General even gave us a tour of the area where he explained the history of everything that happened there before the Korean war.
Did you feel safe there?
I am someone who can be quite anxious at times. Normally I would worry going on journeys like this but I felt very safe in North Korea, thanks to Visit North Korea. I knew all I had to do was to behave and respect the ways and laws of this country. The tour guides Tom and Ben would always keep us informed and comforted. Visit North Korea did a very good job that letting me know how to be appropriate exactly in North Korea. The company made sure I would be fine.
Why did you choose Visit North Korea’s tour package?
I chose Visit North Korea’s tour package because its advertising and promotional were able to successfully demonstrate that the trip was more safe and enjoyable than the rest of the world would make it out to be. And it turned out Visit North Korea told me the truth! It was an amazing trip! Overall I someday I would love to return to North Korea and I will most definitely chose the North Korea experience provided by this company!
