Starting in June, the first flights from Hanoi, Vietnam to Pyongyang, North Korea will commence. As reported first on VNexpress, a Vietnamese travel agency has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korean International Travel Company (KITC) to commence regular charted flights between the two countries, although the airline which will be utilized has not been made clear. Expats in Vietnam will subsequently be able to book North Korea tours and travel to the country directly, than transiting through China which has long been the norm.
Kim Jong-un’s visit to Vietnam in February for a summit with U.S President Donald Trump rekindled historic ties between the two socialist countries, of which came to fruition in the Cold War as both Pyongyang and Hanoi found themselves as divided nations seeking reunification in the midst of fighting a common adversary.
